Handcrafted in Seattle. The needle valve revolution.
The Slayer Single Group is in a category of one. The patented needle valve gives the operator direct, physical, analog control over the pressure curve of every extraction — a capability that produces a level of shot expression no other home machine can match. Handbuilt in Seattle, owned by some of the world's most demanding home baristas and small cafés.
The Machine
Slayer was founded in Seattle in 2007. They made one decision early that defines everything about their machines: extraction is best controlled by the human, not by the computer. The needle valve at the heart of every Slayer is a mechanical, physical component that lets the operator manually shape the flow rate and pressure curve of every shot. No software. No algorithms. Just direct connection between the barista's hand and what happens in the cup.
This philosophical commitment produces espresso that competition-winning baristas pursue: the ability to begin extraction at low pressure to gently saturate the puck, ramp pressure as the shot develops, and finish at full pressure for the desired body. Each shot becomes a performance. The reward, for the operator who develops the skill, is espresso that no preset can match.
The Single Group packs Slayer's full pedigree into a compact form. Independent brew and steam boilers. PID-controlled to a tenth of a degree. A 58mm bottomless portafilter for visual feedback. Peruvian walnut actuators. The machine ships freight from Seattle and is built to last decades of daily use. Slayer was acquired by Italian commercial-equipment giant Gruppo Cimbali in 2017, but operates with full design and engineering autonomy. Founder Jason Prefontaine remains President and CEO.
